Academy

Academy is the auditioned all male-aligning a cappella group. Known for our high-energy performances, we’re a fun-loving group who do everything from competing at ICCAs to recording an international award-winning album!

We’re looking for strong singers of all voice parts, and are on the lookout for any keen beatboxers as well, so if that sounds like you then come along and audition! We rehearse twice a week and we don’t require the ability to read sheet music, just a good dose of energy and a willingness to learn!

To get more of an idea of what we’re about, here’s a little insight into what we’ve been doing recently and what we’ve got planned:

  • Recorded and released our CARA-winning debut album, Exhibit A.
  • We also recorded our new EP, Ad Astra, streaming everywhere now!
  • Better together: A Mental Health Fundraiser, where we helped raise over £2,000 for MIND!
  • We performed at various gigs over the last year, including Badminton Society’s Winter Formal, Vocal Jam and LUKAS in Bristol
  • Of course, we also performed at a number of society events including the collab charity concert with rugby society (which raised over £1,000!), and we sang at Best Of the South West (BOSW) where we got to see many incredible a cappella groups from unis all around the southwest perform!
  • Alongside our sister group Pitch Fight, we made our triumphant return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (after a couple of years off thanks to covid), with our show “Aca-Villa: The Love Island Musical”!
  • This year we’re again planning on competing in ICCAs, performing at BOSW, and taking a show to Fringe! We may do some recording, and are hoping to film a couple of music videos too! We’re also looking forward to getting back into busking – something we haven’t done since before covid!

Rehearsals:

  • Tuesday 8-10pm in Senate 5.22
  • Sunday 4-6pm in AR2 (in the SU)
